Privacy policy

What QuantityWise stores, what third parties may store, and how to control both. Last updated 2026-10-17.

1. Who we are

QuantityWise is an independent site, written and maintained by a small team with backgrounds in construction estimating and software. It is not operated by a merchant, a manufacturer or a trade body.

For any privacy question or request — including a request to see, correct or delete anything we hold about you — write to [email protected]. We answer every one, and we will give you the registered details of the publishing entity on request.

2. Information the site itself collects

Calculator inputs

The calculators are written in JavaScript and run on your device. Nothing you type is transmitted to us. To save you retyping, the last values you entered on a calculator are stored in your browser's local storage under keys beginning mt:. This data stays on your device, is readable only by this site in that browser, and is not synchronised anywhere. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain removes it, as does the Reset button on any calculator.

Preferences

Your choice of metric or imperial units, and your response to the cookie notice, are stored the same way and for the same reason.

Server logs

The site is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard access logs, which typically include the IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, the referring page and the browser's user-agent string. These are used to operate and secure the site and to diagnose faults. We do not use them to build a profile of you.

Email

If you email us, we hold that message and your address for as long as needed to deal with it and to keep a record of any correction you prompted. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not share it.

2b. The order-list email

After a calculator has produced a result, you are offered the chance to have that order list emailed to you. It is an offer and nothing more: no figure is withheld until you take it, every number is already on the screen in front of you, and declining it costs you nothing. It is never shown before a calculation has run.

What is sent to us, and only if you ask

If you complete that form, three things are transmitted: the email address you typed, your answer to whether you are doing the work yourself or fitting for a living, and the order list itself — the same lines shown in the results panel, together with which calculator produced them and whether you were working in metric or imperial. We also record the IP address the request came from and the time, because a record of consent is worthless without them. Nothing else from the form is sent: the site does not transmit your measurements, your prices or anything you did not submit deliberately.

One email, sent straight away

Submitting the form sends you your order list immediately. You asked for it, so you get it — there is no link to click first and no way to end up having handed over an address and received nothing. That single email is the entire obligation created by using the form.

Joining the list is a separate, optional step

At the foot of that email is an invitation to receive one short follow-up about the same job. Clicking it is what adds you to our list; ignoring it means you never hear from us again, and the invitation expires by itself after 48 hours.

We keep those two things apart deliberately. Sending you the figures you requested is us doing as asked. Mailing you afterwards is something you have to choose, and a click made inside an email is evidence that the address is genuinely yours — which matters most if it was mistyped and belongs to someone else, because that person receives one message and can simply delete it.

When you do click, we record the moment, the address and the exact wording you agreed to. That record exists so that if you ever ask why you are receiving email from us, the answer is a specific date and a specific sentence rather than an assurance.

What you will actually receive

• Your order list, within a minute of submitting the form.
• One short follow-up about the same job — only if you asked for it from inside that email.

That is the whole of it. There is no newsletter, no weekly send, and no campaign unrelated to the calculation you ran. Your address is never sold, rented, swapped or passed to a retailer, an advertiser or an affiliate network.

Leaving

Every email carries an unsubscribe link and it takes effect at once, with nothing to log into and no reason required. You can also write to [email protected] and ask to be removed and to have the consent record deleted, and we will do both.

Where it is held

Outstanding follow-up invitations and the consent records are stored in Cloudflare's key-value storage attached to this site. The emails themselves are sent through a transactional email provider, and subscribed addresses are additionally held by our email provider, which sends the follow-up on our behalf. Both act on our instructions under a data-processing agreement, and neither uses your address for anything of their own.

The legal basis

For the order list itself, performing what you asked for when you submitted the form. For the follow-up, consent — which is why joining is a separate click, and which you may withdraw at any time by the means above. Withdrawing does not affect anything sent before you did. Spam-prevention on the form is handled by Cloudflare Turnstile, which is used instead of a CAPTCHA precisely because it does not profile you or track you between sites.

2c. The Android app

This policy also covers the QuantityWise app for Android, distributed through Google Play.

The app collects nothing, and cannot. It is built without the Android internet permission, so it has no technical means of sending anything anywhere — not measurements, not results, not an identifier, not a crash report. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind inside it. Everything you type stays on the phone.

The app keeps your last inputs for each calculator in its own local storage on the device, for the same reason the site does: so you do not retype a room you measured yesterday. That data is readable only by the app, never leaves the device, and is deleted when you clear the app's storage or uninstall it. Under Google Play's definitions this is neither collection nor sharing, which is what the app's Data safety entry says.

Google Play itself records the fact of an install or a purchase, as it does for every app on the store. That is between you and Google under Google's privacy policy; we receive only aggregate sales and install counts with no information identifying you.

3. Advertising

This site does not currently carry advertising. The section below describes what will apply when it does, and is published in advance so nothing changes without notice.

No advertising is served here at present. If that changes, this notice will name the network and describe what it sets before anything appears, rather than after. The terms below are what would apply.

• Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.
• Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site and may use their own cookies to do so.

We do not pass any calculator input, measurement or price you enter to any advertiser, and advertisers have no access to the local storage described in section 2.

4. Analytics

This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure how many people visit and which pages they read. It works through a small script — a beacon — served by Cloudflare, which reads timing and page information from your browser's standard Performance API and sends an aggregate measurement.

It records the page visited, the referring site, an approximate country, and page-load performance. It does not build a profile of you, does not follow you to other websites, and Cloudflare states that it "does not collect or use your visitors' personal data". Cloudflare's own description is published at developers.cloudflare.com/web-analytics.

We use it for one purpose: to see whether anyone is finding the calculators, and which ones. Nothing you type into a calculator is included in any measurement — those values never leave your browser at all, as described in section 2.

If we ever add a second analytics provider, or one that identifies individual visitors, this section will name it and describe it before any such measurement begins.

6. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

No advertising or analytics cookies are set on this site, so there is currently nothing for a consent notice to ask about. If advertising is introduced, a Google-certified consent management platform will obtain consent before any such cookie is set, and this notice will say so before it happens rather than after.

Our legal bases are: your consent, for any non-essential storage; and legitimate interests, for operating and securing the site (server logs) and for responding to correspondence.

You have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict processing, and to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. Because we do not operate accounts, the only personal data we are likely to hold about you is an email you sent us. Requests go to [email protected].

7. Visitors in California

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising except through the advertising described in section 3, which you can opt out of using the controls listed there and through any "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism presented on the site. You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

8. Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions that set that threshold). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Data retention

Local storage persists in your browser until you clear it. Server logs are retained for a limited period by the hosting provider for operational and security purposes. Email correspondence is kept for as long as it remains relevant to the site's accuracy record.

An unaccepted follow-up invitation is deleted automatically 48 hours after it is issued. A subscription and its consent record are kept while you remain subscribed and for two years after you unsubscribe — the record of consent is the only defence against a complaint that we mailed you without it, so it outlives the subscription deliberately. Ask us to delete it sooner and we will.

10. International transfers

The site is served from a global content delivery network, and our advertising partner operates internationally. This means data described in this policy may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, under the safeguards those providers apply.

11. Links to other sites

Pages here link to manufacturer data sheets, standards bodies and other external resources. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for their content or their practices.

12. Changes to this policy

Changes are published on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes — for example, introducing analytics or an additional advertising partner — will be described here before they take effect rather than after.
